St Denys, Stanford in the Vale, Oxfordshire
This active and faithful Christian community had been considering how to adapt their Grade 1 church building for a decade; and in 2008 I was appointed to develop new ideas for providing
- A more flexible worship space
- A quiet prayer area
- Access to all areas for the disabled
- WC and kitchen facilities
My approach to making interventions within the strong medieval architecture makes use of curving and free-standing elements, which do not relate to the axes and straight lines of the church, and hence emphasise that they are more like furnishings than a part of the building construction .
