Townsend House, Streatley, Oxfordshire
This handsome house has remained little changed externally since the time it was built early in the last century.
My clients and I agreed that a 2-storey extension could only be successfully attached if it closely replicated the expressive detailing of the original design.
A measure of that success is that few visitors realise that the right hand gable is not original. No attempt was made to disguise the age of the timber conservatory beneath, however, which wraps neatly round the projecting wing.
