Extensions of time
The assessment of contract delays is fast becoming the preserve of specialists, with complex theories and analytical techniques; and architects increasingly feel out of their depth when it comes to contractors’ claims for extensions of time.
I have been appointed to prepare responses to such claims by several larger architectural practices, who have found an independent opinion helps to reach agreement more quickly. This is especially useful when the works are in progress, and the project architect cannot spare the time on such matters.
My view remains firmly that this subject has been needlessly overcomplicated by specialists, and that an architect with a good analytical mind is best placed to reach the right answer.
